Initial Meeting
We offer 45-90 minute prenatal visits in the comfort of your own home or at our cozy office situated in the heart of South Minneapolis. We follow the same schedule of care all OB/GYNs use and support families throughout Minneapolis, St. Paul, and the greater Twin Cities. Once we establish care, you are able to contact us with questions and concerns anytime via call, text, or email!
During prenatal visits, we:
Monitor you and your baby’s wellbeing
Check blood pressure & other vitals
Order lab work, as needed
Listen to baby’s heart
Provide in-depth personalized education and answer any questions that come up as your baby grows
Prenatal Care
We are on-call for you 24/7 once you reach roughly 35-42 weeks of pregnancy. That means you can call, text, or email anytime with questions and concerns.
Once you are in active labor (or whenever you need us), we arrive quietly at your home. We do a thorough check up on you and the baby, listening to the baby's heart, making sure that you have what you need and that both you and the baby are doing well.
We tailor our labor support based on what you've shared with us about your desires and how the labor is going. We carry all of the equipment we need to assist you in having a safe birth, we essentially bring the birth center to your house! We also have tubs available for our clients who want to labor or birth in the water.
When your baby is born, we center you, your family or support people, and the new baby; we stay in the background as much as we can while also monitoring you and the baby to ensure you are both healthy and stable. Once the placenta is delivered and everyone is doing great, we sneak away to give you some time to bask in the magic of your newest family member.
Before we leave, typically 2-4 hours after the birth, we clean up all of the birth items, start your laundry, make you a meal, and do a complete head to toe newborn exam. We make sure you've had a chance to get any questions answered, you and baby are doing well, and you've got everything you need to settle in for a nap.
Labor & Homebirth Care
We will have in-home visits at 1 day, 3 days, 1 week, 2 weeks, and 6 weeks postpartum. Each visit is about 45-60 minutes and if you need an additional visit or two to help with nursing or other new skills, we include that in our package of care as well! We pride ourselves in offering the support you need to feel confident and trust your own parenting instincts.
During postpartum visits, we:
Complete a thorough check-up on you to ensure that you're recovering well
Answer any questions you have
Ensure that you have adequate support
Do a complete check-up on your baby, making sure that nursing or feeding is going well and baby is healthy and strong
Offer Newborn Screening
Provide recommendations for other support services, as needed

How Much Does Homebirth Cost?
The typical cost for a homebirth with Southside Midwifery is $6,500*
This includes all prenatal care, birth, postpartum and newborn care. It includes the support you need in the early postpartum time, like lactation or feeding support.
You will get much more time, attention, personalization, and support than other birth options. Give yourself and your family the gift of a loving experience.
*Early pay discount to $6,000 for families that pay in full by 32 weeks.
If you qualify for Medicaid or SNAP, ask about our discount options.

You deserve care that goes beyond appointments and hospital walls. As your midwives, we partner with you throughout pregnancy, birth planning, postpartum, and newborn care. We work alongside your hospital care team to surround you in compassionate support.
How Much Does Collaborative Hospital Birth Cost?
The fee for prenatal or postpartum care with Southside Midwifery while planning a hospital birth is $4,000
This includes comprehensive collaborative prenatal, postpartum, and newborn care. It also includes any additional support you may need in the early postpartum time, like lactation support.
We will collaborate with your birth team at the hospital of your choice and ensure they have all the medical records needed to provide true wrap around care.
Homebirth isn’t for everyone, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t create the experience the best fits your needs. We welcome creative care plans and are here to create joy with you!
